My long-term ambition musket-wise is to own a Matchlock and a piece with a lock more suited to Dragooning.

Initially I was all up for getting a Doglock but after giving it some thought (and hanging around some museums) I'm wondering whether a wheellock musket might be a more interesting choice.

I know they're over complicated and unreliable but I don't think there's enough of them about, particularly for any veterans returning from the continent.

I particularly like this German one (at the top) in Westpoint military museum:



Any thoughts?

Expensive, tricksy and if it got a clout on the field you'd weep.

All that being said; they are lovely in their way.

That looks like the work of Peter Engerisser. His work (or Art) is stunning, but also a little out of my price range!

Spot on it was a link to his website.

Henry Krank do a replica Doglock for 375 you have to scroll down quite a way.
